A constant renewal
Continuity and progress. These are two fundamental principles of our industry which guide our activity at the Haras de Cercy. Each year, our catalogue of stallions combines the two, with proven sires alongside newcomers carefully selected for their qualities and their ability to offer varied bloodlines. This season is no different. We continue to innovate, while preserving a strong continuity. In 2022, our constant aim for renewal and progress is represented by ten stallions. You are familiar with seven of these, and three are new recruits. Overall, the catalogue is characterized by youth and potential.
COKORIKO saw his fourth generation on the track in 2021, and they were just as successful as previous crops. Quite simply, he is a member of the club of the top five active jumps sires in France. IVANOHE, ICARE ALLEN and ICÔNE D’AUBRELLE represent his new wave while his headline progeny such as POLIRICO and FLYINGSTARTANDCO show great durability. The younger stallions will not let him rest on his laurels. FREE PORT LUX and KARAKTAR have seen their first crops produce numerous winners and black-type performers. The former is sire of ITOURS BRUN, placed at Group level at Auteuil, while the latter is sire of a trio of talented flat horses, ILE O VENT, winner of an AQPS Gr.3, IL EST FRANCAIS, runner-up in the AQ Gr.1 Prix Jacques de Vienne and ISATIS MACALO, third in the AQ Gr.3 Critérium du Centre. KARAKTAR also counts the promising YOU’RE THE BOSS, a Listed runner-up at Auteuil, among his progeny.
The same can be said for JEU ST ELOI, whose first two crops have registered a superb advancement with black-type winners on the flat and over jumps in 2021: IDEFIXE DU MOULIN, who lifted the Prix de l’Avenir (Gr.3 AQ) and HUCELLO, Listed scorer at Auteuil. These demonstrate the versatility of his production, a talent which is also shared with PRINCE GIBRALTAR whose offspring have made their mark under both codes, notably black-type performers GIBRALFARO, MARGARET’S LEGACY and GILDA.
The first crops of IVANHOWE (first three-year-olds in 2022) and TUNIS (first two-year-olds in 2022), have both attracted positive reactions at conformation shows and in the sales rings.
This overview is far from exhaustive but it illustrates the unquestionable success of stallions in which many of you, breeders and enthusiasts, have already placed your trust. We thank you for this confidence. Your support has materialized in the continuity of previous seasons in 2021. 726 mares were covered by our sires, making the Haras de Cercy one of the principal actors in the jumps breeding industry in France. Many thanks to you all.
For the forthcoming season, three important recruits represent our desire for constant renewal. These are HEADMAN, WALDPARK & ZASKAR. The former, by KINGMAN, is a dual Gr.2 winner who descends from one of the best Juddmonte families. The second, by DUBAWI, lifted the Gr.1 German Derby and already counts winners from small early crops, on the flat and over jumps, including the highly-promising pair HERBIERS and PETIT TONNERRE exported across the Channel. KINGMAN and DUBAWI: two internationally renowned and influential names.
As for ZASKAR, his parents are two of the greatest champions in the history of racing: SEA THE STARS and ZARKAVA. He is also a nephew of ZARKANDAR, a multiple Gr.1 winner over hurdles, and a brother of ZARAK, leading first crop sire in 2021. An example to follow for this future sire with an extraordinary pedigree who was unable to show his talent on the track following an injury in training, a similar story to that of Saddler Maker…
These three exceptional new propositions will permit breeders to widen the spectrum of their crosses and introduce new and prestigious bloodlines. The three new recruits tick all the boxes needed for future success and we welcome them with pride and excitement.
We must also address the subject of economics, and on this matter we remain true to our convictions and our DNA. The fees in our 2022 catalogue respect our principal of fair and affordable prices. Since the creation in 2013 of the Société Coopérative Agricole des Eleveurs de Chevaux de Course (SCAECC – Agricultural Cooperative of Racehorse Breeders ), our activity has been guided by the principle of solidarity and this remains a cornerstone of our business and a driving force for our breeding adventure. Thanks you for your participation and for your role in our success story. We wish you all the very best for 2022.
