SON OF THE KING
A king is dead, long live the king! The recent retirement of European monarch Saint des Saints from the jumps breeding scene leaves the succession open to his sons. Which one of them will ascend to the vacant throne?
There are many aspirants. David du Berlais figures on the list and rates highly in the order of succession. His outstanding credentials are propelled by his dam, the exceptional King's Daughter, a Group winner at Auteuil turned exceptional broodmare. To her name, she already counts James and Queen du Berlais, winners of Parisian Group contests, but also and above all the champion steeplechaser Goliath du Berlais, winner of the Prix Ferdinand Dufaure Gr.1. This other son of Saint des Saints has enjoyed great success with his first 3yo and in a way shows the way to his younger sibling David. An equine revisitation of David versus Goliath... David du Berlais was also gifted on the track but only had time to reveal a fragment of his talent, beating the best of his generation in the Listed Prix des Platanes before being forced to retire through injury. His debut at stud last spring was greeted with great public approval and a book of 124 mares, including some very promising broodmares. With David du Berlais, the candidate for future reign resides at Cercy.
